AREAS OF FOCUS
Creativity and Creative Blocks
Has the muse abandoned you? Are you questioning your self-worth when you’re not creating? Is your passion starting to feel like a chore? Do you feel your work is never good enough? As a writer and musician, I understand the struggles and joys of the creative process. Counseling can be a way to explore what is holding you back from expressing yourself. We can examine issues related to perfectionism and challenge the voices of self-criticism. Whether you are a professional or an aspiring artist, we can find ways to free yourself from those blocks to reignite your imagination and rediscover your creative energy.
Minority Stress and Marginalized Identities
Have you always felt out of place or treated differently? Maybe your family’s beliefs differed from mainstream society’s and left you confused and ostracized. As life went on and you developed a greater understanding of yourself, perhaps you realized who you are is at odds with the messages you received in the past. It can be stressful to navigate a society where you might encounter prejudice and discrimination, whether towards your age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, and/or ability. As a person with marginalized identities, I understand the struggle and loneliness of being the “other.” In therapy, I can provide a space for you to voice your experiences, discover your authentic self, and find your place in this world.
Are you stuck in an unfulfilling job? Are you unable to find a job in a field that interests you? Do you wake up and dread going to work? Is your cultural upbringing at odds with the path you want to pursue? You might be feeling trapped, helpless, empty, or lost. Career counseling/therapy can help.
Throughout our lives, we are often told stories by others that shape how we view our career. Some of these might narratives include committing only to one path, valuing the highest paying job/field, or viewing a career simply as a means to make a living. And amidst the busyness of work, we haven’t taken the time to question these ideas. Unlike career coaching, counseling goes deeper with the aim of deconstructing these stories, exploring your values, and empowering you to make career choices that align with your values.
(In-person & Online)
Note: Due to the pandemic, I am only offering online counseling through HIPAA compliant videoconferencing platforms until further notice.
I offer individual counseling to adults (18 and over) in Washington state. I enjoy working with creatives (e.g. artists, writers, musicians) who are experiencing barriers to creativity. I enjoy counseling young adults and minorities navigating multiple marginalized identities. Some common concerns my clients bring are depression, anxiety, existential issues, and identity conflicts. Whether you are seeking support for your mental health or need a space to express your thoughts and feelings, counseling is an opportunity to explore yourself, grow, and heal.
“Every act of genuine creativity means achieving a higher level of self-awareness and personal freedom.”
